A visit with Don & Doris and scenes from the Neighbourhood : Well we finally did it. We went somewhere warm in the Wintertime. Thanks to my brother, Donald, and his wonderful wife, Doris. (Hey, I'm going for suck-up points here so maybe we can go back again some day.) Images in this gallery were taken in and round their beautiful home. As well as around the neighbourhood, the local town (Stuart) and a few local beaches (Stuart - Jensen Beach) as indicated in the image caption.

The Everglades - East Coast : After spending a few days with Don & Doris, Marilyn and I took off south to Florida City. We were lucky to find that the Everglades National Park Service were offering a 5 hour, Ranger-led car caravan tour from the Ernest Coe Visitor Center just out side Florida City, down to Flamingo on Florida Bay.

The Florida Keys : After our wonderful visit to the Everglades National Park, we again headed south. This time to the Florida Keys -- From Key Largo all the way to Key West. We stopped at the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park where we took a glass bottom boat tour of the Coral reefs. We stayed at the Blue Waters Resort Motel in Marathon and spent the better part of a day touring around Key West itself.

The Gulf Coast : At the start of our second week, we headed over to the Gulf coast. From Crystal River down to Naples. Even with the colder than normal weather, it was easy to see why the Gulf coast is so popular with Snowbirds.

John and Mable Ringling Estate : Located in Sarasota, Florida, the John and Mabel Ringling Museum of Art is a must see for anyone in the area. The day we were there, the Circus Museum was closed for renovations to one of the exhibits. We did visit the Tibbals Learning Center to see the Model Circus. We also took the tour of Cà d'Zan - The Ringlings' winter home. And before the place closed for the day, I and my camera even managed to spend some time in the Mabel Ringling Rose Garden.

The Everglades - West Coast and Big Cyprus National Preserve : To finish off our Gulf Coast trip, we stopped at Everglades City and took a boat tour out of the Gulf Coasts Visitor Center in the Everglades National Park. We then made a couple of stops along State Route 41 in Big Cypress National Preserve, before heading back up north along the east coast to Don & Doris' home.
